For over 100 years, Kellogg’s impressive line of foods has made an appearance in homes all across the globe.
But it was the invention of their first product - The classic breakfast staple, flaked cereal, which would change the way we ate our first meal of the day forever.
Corn Flakes was developed entirely by accident in 1894 by founder Will Keith Kellogg (or W.K. Kellogg, as he is more commonly known) and his brother, Dr. John Harvey Kellogg, through a process that involved toasting cooked wheat after it had been left out overnight.
At the time, the Kellogg brothers were actually trying to make granola, but stumbled upon this new recipe instead.
Literally overnight the breakfast cereal industry was born.
While the brand was originally distributed in America during some of the most trying episodes of our history (Including the Great Depression), today the Kellogg Company sells its 50+ brands of cereal in 180 countries.
But the brand’s legendary status doesn’t stop there - In 1969, Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes would be the first cereal to make it to the moon; providing sustenance for the astronauts of the Apollo 11 mission, which included Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins.
But whether a small-town staple or buzzworthy headline, Kelloggs has always focused on providing families with the richest ingredients available. After learning that the average consumer’s fiber intake was below recommended levels, they upped the fiber content in some of their most popular cereals, including Fruit Loops from 2009-2010.
And in direct contrast not only to their competitors in the breakfast food niche, but also to any other US food company, the brand’s cereals have a higher fiber (3 grams) and whole grains (8 grams) content on average.
